Windows Phone 7 ‘revolution’ to begin 11 October?

Redmond phone OS fight-back looming

Citing 'sources familiar with the matter', Pocket-lint claims that Microsoft will officially launch Windows Phone 7 on 11 October. The Redmond-based company reportedly plans to launch its next generation iOS and Android competitor at a major New York City event taking center stage, with accompanying presentations also occurring around the globe in other key markets.

While the official launch of Windows Phone 7 is expected on 11 October, handsets from launch partners including Asus, Dell, HTC, LG and Samsung are not expected to ship until the end of that month. The most recent Windows Phone 7 device to surface, the LG Optimus 7, appeared at IFA last week and looks to be one of the flagship devices for Windows Phone 7 at launch.

Microsoft has reportedly set aside $500 million just on marketing for what will be a pivotal moment in the company's future. It has treated the OS as virtually a complete restart and is counting on early success to remain alive.
