'Musical' iPad ad continues app theme

iPad advertising follows iPhone track

Apple is airing a new TV commercial for the iPad, dubbed simply "iPad is Musical." The spot is similar in format to one from August, presenting a series of apps in rapid succession. Some of these include third-party titles like MLB At Bat, Madden NFL 11 and Time Magazine. Others are native to the iPad, including Maps and Safari; the latter is shown browsing Facebook.

The company appears to be moving to a strategy used in most ads for the iPhone 3G and 3GS, concentrating less on the iPad hardware than the apps that give it functionality. There are over 20,000 native iPad apps to date. iPhone 4 ads, by contrast, have been largely dedicated to FaceTime, the video calling technology made possible by the addition of a forward-facing camera.

Maybe it's just me, but I'd think any average

consumer that saw a commercial like that would say "WTF! I gotta get me one of those." That ad is straight and to the point. Probably all the software they showed would amount to less than $100, if that much. I don't know that medical CAT scan reading software's cost. Apple is going to sell a h*** of a lot of iPads in 2011 if this trend continues. Thanks, Steve for not listening to the analysts who wanted Apple to sell netbooks.
