New bootrom exploit aims to jailbreak iOS 4.1

updated 06:25 pm EDT, Wed September 8, 2010

Exploit said to be difficult for Apple to fix

Within hours of Apple's official iOS 4.1 release, a Dev Team member has already announced a bootrom exploit that promises to jailbreak the latest OS. The exploit is expected to be difficult for Apple to disable in a software update, without physically flashing a new bootrom to devices.

The iPhone Dev Team warns users to wait until a jailbreak has been built around the bootrom exploit. A time-frame for a public release has yet to be announced, although the bootrom method could take longer to develop. [via Boy Genius Report]
