ExoPC Slate up for pre-order in 64GB trim minus GPS

ExoPC tablet takes advance sales

ExoPC this weekend acted on its promises and started taking pre-orders for the ExoPC Slate. The Windows tablet will first ship with a "fast" 64GB SanDisk SSD but without the initially hoped for GPS, since the current chip isn't working properly. In exchange, the price is dropping to $750 Canadian ($724 US), regardless of whether or not GPS is added back.

The Quebec-based startup also gave an official estimate of four hours of battery life; it could sometimes reach more, but the new figure is the most consistent. Shipments should start by the end of the month. A 32GB version when it ships will cost $649 Canadian ($624 US).

Much of the design of the Slate resembles a large Windows 7 netbook with an 11.6-inch display, a 1.66GHz Atom processor, 2GB of RAM, Intel graphics and two USB ports. It centers on a multi-touch display as well as a unique interface layer that uses Flash and JavaScript to turn conventional apps into touchscreen-friendly versions. A Broadcom Crystal HD accelerator and mini HDMI out give it a degree of home theater support with some 1080p video support.
