Confirms Game Center, other carry-overs

Apple has put up an official webpage for the iPad version of the iOS 4.2 update, which is due in November. The page mentions "100+ new features," most of which are actually being carried over from v4.0 for the iPhone and iPod touch. iOS 4.2 will, however, be the first version of iOS 4 for the iPad.

Some iOS 4 features were implemented early via the tablet's v3.2 firmware, such as support for Bluetooth keyboards. But the iPad will finally gain multitasking and folders in v4.2, along with other basic enhancements such as a unified inbox, Safari text search and improved enterprise support. Game Center compatibility will migrate over from v4.1; unique to v4.2 will be wireless printing, and the ability to push audio and video to compatible hardware using AirPlay.

    Improved enterprise support

Anything would be welcome. These things are horrible to try to manage from an enterprise standpoint.

    yawn

I'm an avid Apple supporter, always have been and own all the latest gear, but the iPad bores me a bit now. None of these updates mean anything to me except the printing, but without some improvements in the basic software, even the printing is basically a waste of time.

I don't play games or watch TV that much. I'm still waiting for some kind of iPad update that will make the iPad into a USEFUL portable COMPUTER.

I will probably be waiting a long long time.

    How About Full File Sharing

Sure would be nice to fully access documents on a share point, ie. iDisk, SMB, AFS, without having to download and then email the document with every change.

    Infectious yawn

I am with Gazoobee, bored with the updates, but because I am not interested in the iPad at all. I am really keen on a smaller MacBook Air - that is smaller, not thinner, so the 11.6" screen rumour is what excites me. Sticking with my Hackintosh Netbook until then.

    Wow

So in a few months, Apple will finally remove some of that fragmentation they've infected their market with. That's when the devices will start to sell, since we know all this "is it iOS 3 or 4" stuff just confuses the user and makes it that much more likely they won't buy anything.

Or at least that's what it is on the Android phones...

Multi Users & fast user switching...

...would seem lacking - in order to let someone borrow the device (in the workplace or home) all information is accessible - unless individual app folders can be made private as a workaround ? This might even be desirable on the iPhone/iTouch... ?
