Apple only computer maker not lowering notebook orders?

Shipments drop for most companies

Apple appears to be the only company immune from a falloff in notebook shipments for the month of July, according to a report from Digitimes Research senior analyst Joanne Chien. HP is said to be the hardest hit, with notebook shipments expected to reach only 39.5 million units by the end of the year. The company had set a goal of 45-47 million units.

The report echoes a recent investor note, published by UBS analyst Maynard Um, that pointed to slow sales in most retail outlets. The only heavy traffic was seen at Apple Stores as students sought Macs for the school season.

Separate numbers suggest Mac sales have also shined in the enterprise and government segments. Needham analyst Charlie Wolf outlined a 200 percent year-over-year jump in government sales, while business shipments grew by nearly 50 percent.

Despite Apple's strong performance in the enterprise market, the company is expected to continue targeting home users through the end of the year. The company has maintained its performance in the consumer segment as the overall economy has continued to struggle.

I'm still willing to bet that Apple's share

price is going to take a heavy beating. All investors have to do is hear is that there is a slowdown in computer sales and whether it has anything to do with Apple or not, Apple shares are going to suffer as badly as Dell's or HP's. I'd even think it's likely that all those analyst pricks who were boosting Apple target prices to the sky will start revising target prices down. They're not going to give Apple a break. What's obvious is that there is a shifting of power from Windows PCs to Apple devices but WS and investors don't understand that at all. They just lump the whole computer industry as a whole. I hope I'm wrong, but it has happened before and likely to happen again.

This is why Ballmer is so scared

"Charlie Wolf outlined a 200 percent year-over-year jump in government sales, while business shipments grew by nearly 50 percent."

The government and corporate markets are Microsoft's bread and butter. Ballmer thinks he can't allow Microsoft's dominance to erode, so he's afraid to look ahead to where the world is heading. He's going to milk the legacy desktop OS market for all it's worth.

If he lasts that long. I wouldn't be surprised if Ballmer is un-installed when Windows Phone 7 fails. I'd put the over/under at halfway through 2011. Ballmer must at least be aware of all the heat Apple got for not having cut-and-paste on iPhone. And that's going to be the least of his worries.

    That's because

Apple fanboi's have to replace their failing kit. No end of sales in that department.

Why is it then, OSX never increases in marketshare? Still stuck at 5 boys.

    That's because II

You obviously have missed the point. With your logic, you would discount the iPad as not included in the OS game. There are two reasons why OSX has stayed around 5% in the past year and that is Windows 7 and Netbooks. Now that the iPad is out the numbers can't be centered around one OS, but on devices. I didn't include the iPhone since that is regarded as a mobile device and the iPad is not. 4 years ago OSX was under 3% and now is slightly over 5%. However, the trend is moving towards the iOS and the lines get blurred there.

It is okay to be a fanboy or an anti-fanboy, but be fact based and not emotional.
