updated 11:15 pm EDT, Thu September 2, 2010

Entry-level 2D Blu-ray player also unveiled

Toshiba has introduced its first 3D Blu-ray player, the BDX3100KB, along with a new entry-level 2D Blu-ray player, the BDX1100KB. The 3D model supports 1080p 3D content connected to a TV via HDMI, while 7.1-channel audio can be transmitted in Dolby TrueHD or DTS HD Master Audio Essential formats.

Aside from Blu-ray discs, the BDX3100 also supports a wide range of additional media formats. Users can also enjoy MKV, DivX, HD-JPEG, AVCHD and MP3 files loaded onto a USB stick.

The BDX1100 is geared toward budget-conscious consumers looking for a 2D Blu-ray player. The device supports 1080p output, HD upscaling, Dolby TrueHD, and DTS-HD Master Audio. Both models also allow users to access BD-Live content.

The BDX3100 and BDX1100 are both set to ship in the UK sometime in October. The company has yet to announce pricing or North American launch dates.
