Sony shows pair of SD Handycam camcorders

Sony on Wednesday showed off two increasingly rare standard-definition Handycam digital camcorders, the DCR-SX15E and DCR-SR15E. Both share a flip-out 2.7-inch LCD, and have Sony's SteadyShot image stabilization and face detection technologies, along with a 50X optical zoom. They differ in storage, as the SX15E relies on external Memory Stick or SD cards while the SR15E gets a built-in 80GB hard drive.

The SX15E records to Memory Stick or SD card, which users need to buy separately. Each has a Direct Copy feature that lets users back up footage to an external hard drive thanks to an optional USB adapter. Another option, the VRD-P1 DVDirect Express, will allow for burning content onto blank DVDs without a PC.

The two are due to arrive in October, though prices are yet to be announced.

    digital camcorder review

I am very impressed by the low light performance of the DCR-TRV22. Of course, compared with a three-chip camera with 1/3 inch. CCD has not been very impressive, but considering the price category, it is very surprising. There was very little grain produced when the camera shoots in low light. And the camcorder produced an image reveals some details on what is considered the lighting conditions of candle light. In medium low light conditions the camera did pretty well. And under normal environmental conditions, technically, in low light, the camera performed amazing. It is really cool.
