Sony Bloggie Touch revamps pocket camcorders

Sony rejuvenated its pocket camcorder mix today with the Bloggie Touch. The new model is almost exclusively controlled by a three-inch capacitive touchscreen that both provides a more flexible interface and reacts to whether it's used in portrait or landscape. Image quality is also important, as it uses a CMOS sensor that handles low light better than some others and shoots both 1080p video as well as 12.8-megapixel still images, or enough to challenge a regular photo camera.

The design follows the formula of pocket camcorders with a built-in USB connector and a preloaded app to help transfer and publish video online, although it should support drag-and-drop on most platforms. Sony claims small edges with the presences of face detection and hardware image stabilization; an HDMI ouptut gives native resolution viewing.

Sony is shipping the Bloggie Touch with 4GB and 8GB of built-in storage and in black or silver colors. It should be ready in October at costs of $180 for 4GB and $200 for the 8GB edition.
