Review: EyeTV for iPad

updated 04:00 pm EDT, Tue August 31, 2010

Cost, equipment only real obstacles

MacNN has reviewed EyeTV for iPad, a new extension of Elgato's TV viewing platform for the Mac. The app lets users stream captured TV on an iPad, whether live or recorded. Via a menu system newly optimized over the iPhone app, users can also check scheduling or an electronic program guide.

The app is said to work flawlessly for the most part, being relatively easy to set up while producing smooth video. The only hindrances are said to be the requirements, since people must first have a Mac, a compatible TV tuner, and the EyeTV 3.4 desktop software. On top of this people may want the $99 Turbo.264 HD USB encoder, which is said to optimize streaming over 3G, and offline video conversion for iTunes sync. EyeTV for iPad costs $5 at the App Store.
