Motorola makes Android-based Ming phones official

Motorola announces three Ming phones for China

Motorola on Monday officially released three new Ming-series handsets powered by Android. All are meant for the Chinese market, and include the Beihai MT810 for China Mobile's TD-SCDMA network, the Qilin XT806 for China Telecom's CDMA network, and the Lucky A1680 for China Unicom's WCDMA network. Each features Chinese handwriting support for their touchscreens.

The MT-810 uses China Mobile's OS 2.0 customization of Android. It uses a dual-touch system, where the 3.2-inch resistive touchscreen allowing for stylus or finger input. The transparent cover offers capacitive touch input. Users can capture 480p video or play back 720p clips. Apps can be downloaded from China Mobile's Mobile Market.

The XT806 uses Android 2.1 and, as a dual-mode phone, suports both CDMA/EVDO and GSM networks. Preloaded business tools include Quicknotes, which lets users edit text, voice recordings, videos, pictures, sketches and screen snapshots. It also has a 3.2-inch screen but adds GPS navigation and 720p HD video capture. Apps can be downloaded from Motorola's SHOP4APPS store.

The Lucky A1680 uses a 3.1-inch AMOLED touchscreen and gets both WAPI and Wi-Fi support. It gets a 5-megapixel camera and GPS navigation, with apps downloadable from Motorola's SHOP4APPS store.

Prices weren't released, and neither is it known if Motorola plans to bring the new Ming line to North America.
