Sony Ericsson Vivaz gets official US launch on ATT

Symbian got a rare foothold in the US today as AT&T today picked up the Sony Ericsson Vivaz. The S60 device focuses on video first and can snap either 8.1-megapixel photos or 720p movies. As the OS already handles real multitasking, it can upload a video (over Wi-Fi) in the background.

The AT&T version largely clings to Sony Ericsson's customized version of the interface but adds a few custom apps. AT&T Navigator is an option for subscription GPS, and its Social Net app is available as an alternative for those who don't want to use Facebook, MySpace or Twitter from the stock UI. Sony Ericsson's phone occupies the mid-range outside of its camera with a 3.2-inch, 640x360 touchscreen, 3G and Wi-Fi on top of the other features.

The Vivaz should be in stores on September 5 and will be pitched as one of AT&T's budget smartphones, costing $80 on contract after a $50 rebate.
