ASUS launches dual-core Eee PC 1015PEM netbook

About to hit shelves in Italy, October for US?

As predicted, Asus will be debut the first netbook based on Intel's new dual-core Atom chip, the N550. According to Notebook Italia, Asus has started making initial shipments of the Eee PC 1015PEM, its new netbook flagship.

At the heart of the Eee PC 1015PEM beats the new 64-bit dual-core Atom N550, which is clocked at 1.5GHz. It supports DDR3 memory, Hyperthreading, and up to 2GB of DDR3 RAM. Integrated on the same die is Intel's GMA 3150 graphics. While clocking slightly slower than most of today's single-core Atom chips, the addition of an extra core is expected to bring a significant video performance boost. Additional information on connectivity and storage options for the Eee PC 1015PEM have yet to emerge.

Other manufacturers including Lenovo, LG, MSI, Samsung and Toshiba are also expected to make announcements on upcoming netbooks based on the on the new dual-core Atom chip.

The Asus Eee PC 1015PEM is expected to arrive in the UK in October for around $450. No official release date for North America has yet been set. [via Style]
