Nokia officially announces 5350 music phone

Nokia today unveiled recently leaked touchscreen music phone, the 5250. The Symbian S60 device is tailored to media and has a shortcut on the home screen that leads to the music player. There is just 51MB of onboard storage, but 16GB microSD memory cards are supported. The handset also includes an FM radio and ships with a copy of Guitar Hero 5 Mobile.

The 5250's costs are kept down by limiting support to quad-band GSM/EDGE networks. The 2.8-inch screen is as sharp as on larger phones, at 640x360, and there is a 2-megapixel camera as well. Certain areas will get the Nokia 5250 bundled with the company's Ovi Music Unlimited (formerly Comes With Music) download service, supplying a year's worth of permanent downloads in return for a higher up front price.

The battery life is said to last up to seven hours of talk time or 24 hours of music playback.

In Europe, the 5250 is expected to be released in the fall, priced at the equivalent of $146 before taxes and carrier subsidies. It should work in North America but doesn't have any local release plans so far.
