Verizon brings ZTE Salute handset to stores

Verizon has partnered with phone maker ZTE to introduce the Chinese company's first Verizon device, the entry-level Salute slider phone. The handset sports a 2.4-inch screen and a 1.3-megapixel camera. It supports Bluetooth headsets and has a core level of Internet access.

Users can also send text and picture messages, as well chat and send e-mails. A Media Center app gives users access to downloadable games, wallpapers, ringtones and location-based services, among others.

Another app, dubbed Social Beat, lets users connect to Facebook, Twitter and MySpace, along with over 50 news, sports and entertainment feeds. A Backup Assistant will copy the address book to an online spot for easy backup. Users can also access VZ Navigator for turn-by-turn assisted GPS.

The Salute is priced at $20 after a $50 mail-in rebate and on a two-year contract.
