App, website to host videos simultaneously
Video website Vevo has launched a dedicated iPhone app. Users can more easily stream the service's music videos, mostly by mainstream, heavily-marketed acts like Eminem, Lady Gaga and Kanye West. A selection of videos by lesser-known artists like Sarah Harmer is also available, and in fact one browsing option concentrates explicitly on new artists.
Some other browsing options include filters for top videos, premieres, artists on tour, and "nearby" videos popular in a particular city. Vevo is promising that any clips debuting on Vevo.com will be available in the app simultaneously. Some handicaps still exist however, namely a lack of multitasking support, and licensing restrictions keeping the app in Canada and the US. The title is also unable to connect to a Vevo account.
