China Unicom to launch iPhone 4, iPad

updated 10:30 am EDT, Tue August 17, 2010

iPhone 4 debut coming next month

China Unicom will soon be selling both the iPhone 4 and the iPad in China, according to Agence France-Presse, quoting local media sources. The iPhone 4 is expected to be launched next month, while the iPad has yet to be given a definitive timeframe. An official from China Unicom says he cannot confirm any deals.

China has so far been playing catch-up with the rest of the world in terms of the iPhone. The device only officially went on sale in the country late last year, and then only in a version without Wi-Fi. This was remedied on August 9th however, and the iPhone 4 debut should fall in line with normal international distribution. The iPad is still in the early phases of international expansion, again putting China roughly on track.
