Fujifilm FinePix Real 3D W3 adds 720p 3D video

Fujifilm kicked off its pre-Photokina run with a FinePix Real 3D camera it claims as a world first. The W3 is the fist compact camera to shoot 3D movies at 720p through a new imaging chip that can handle the workload. Also new is a 3D-capable mini HDMI 1.4 output that can show the results as they were originally shot on a supporting 3D TV.

The camera as an update to the W1 revolves around a similar set of dual 10-megapixel, 3X zoom lenses set far enough apart to mimic the stereoscopy of human eyes. A 3.5-inch touchscreen on the back is both the main interface and has glasses-free 3D to give an impression of the final image.

As before, the presence of dual lenses helps with 2D photography and can simultaneously snap wide-angle and telephoto shots or use high and low sensitivities. When printing, photographers also have the option of printing 3D effect images by sending them to Fujifilm's SeeHere service at $7 for each five-by-seven inch print.

Fujifilm ships the W3 in early September for $500.
