Samsung vows fix for Galaxy S GPS in September

updated 11:50 pm EDT, Fri August 13, 2010

Samsung Galaxy S GPS to get fix next month

Samsung's web product analyst Carla Saavedra on Friday promised an upcoming fix for chronic problems with GPS on Galaxy S phones. An update to "optimize" the positioning is due in September and should significantly speed up the lock-in time and accuracy. The patch should apply to both US and international versions of the Android device, such as the Captivate and Vibrant, although it's not known how many will get updates at the same time.

Since launch, owners have complained that the phones take a very long time to get the initial position and often has difficulty getting a truly accurate signal. In extreme cases, some devices haven't been able to get a lock at all. The issue is known to be fixable in software and has a temporary workaround, although the update isn't officially supported by Samsung or carriers.

    Awfull Signal Strenght

I hope this fix to increase the signal strength of the GPS. It's a shame that you buy an $500 product with features not working as should.
