Sony today teased its camera update plans today with word of a camera-related event on August 24, Electronista has learned. The gathering, at least in Canada, will focus on new Alpha cameras as well as other imaging hardware. The NEX-VG10 camcorder should also be on show.
No clues were given as to what would arrive, but a recent leak pointed to four models that would be candidates for the event. The A560 and A580 would be straightforward replacements for the A550 with 14- and 16-megapixel sensors, 7FPS burst shooting and "full HD" movie recording, according to Sony Alpha Rumors.
More unique would be the A33 and A55; they would have the same 14- and 16-megapixel resolutions, but both are listed as having electronic viewfinders and may be pro versions of the NEX-3 and NEX-5 that take full-sized Alpha lenses. Both may have radical designs as they're listed as "translucent," and the A55 may be faster with 10FPS burst shooting.
The new Alpha lineup may ship sometime in September, but prices haven't been uncovered.
