New Chrome beta brings Autofill, faster speed, UI tweaks

updated 10:10 pm EDT, Wed August 11, 2010

Users can now sync Chrome extensions

Google has introduced a variety of new features to its Chrome betas. Users can now take advantage of Autofill to complete forms that require information such as names, addresses, e-mail addresses and credit card numbers. The company has also tweaked the UI with a streamlined toolbar, enhanced Omnibox, and options condensed into a single menu.

Synchronization capabilities have been expanded to include bookmarks, preferences, themes, and extensions. The sync options allow users to access their own bookmarks and preferences on any computer running Chrome and signed into a Google account.

Aside from changes to the basic functionality, the latest Chrome beta is also said to be faster than previous releases. Google claims the new beta is 15 percent faster on the SunSpider and V8 benchmarks compared to the last beta, while Mozilla Dromeao DOM Core tests show a 64 percent improvement.

The Chrome beta can be downloaded directly from Google.
