Motorola to ship Ming A1680 phone to China

The first Ming-series handset with Android has appeared on Motorola's developer site. The A1680 preempts the leaked MT820. The series is distinguished by their transparent flip covers, and the A1680's case, one covers the 3.1-inch AMOLED touchscreen with an 800x480 resolution.

The handset otherwise supports 3G networks along with both China's WAPI and the primary Wi-Fi standard. There is a GPS sensor onboard, along with Bluetooth 2.1, a five-megapixel autofocus camera, and a microSDHC memory card slot supplementing the 512MB of onboard memory. Android 1.6 will be the default OS. Processing is handled by a 624MHz Marvell processor, and the handset has 256MB of RAM.

The screen can recognize handwriting and a stylus is included for inputting Chinese characters. An accelerometer is built in and automatically adjusts the screen's orientation.

The A1680 is due in China sometime in the near future, though pricing hasn't been revealed. It's likewise unknown whether the handset will arrive in other markets. [via Unwired View]
