Apple fixes exploit in iOS 4.0.2 for iPhone, 3.2.2 for iPad

updated 03:25 pm EDT, Wed August 11, 2010

JailbreakMe security hole closed

Apple on Wednesday released updates to its iOS software, v4.0.2 for the iPhone or iPod touch and v3.2.2 for the iPad. The updates appear to fix a security exploit that had allowed devices to be hacked using a PDF document. The PDF vulnerability allowed users to quickly jailbreak a device by visiting JailbreakMe.com via Mobile Safari.

The iOS updates are available as free downloads from iTunes. iOS 4.0.2 is compatible with the iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, iPhone 3G, and second- or third-generation iPod touch, while iOS 3.2.2 works with both iPad variants.

Looks like the iPhone is not as secure as everyone thinks. Just imagine if that was a malicious site that you clicked on....

    um...

The PDF vulnerability allowed users to quickly jailbreak a device by visiting JailbreakMe.com via Mobile Safari.

It also would allow anyone to get themselves hacked and rootkitted if they went to a malicious web site.

But let's ignore the actual security implications and just say that the 'worst' thing with this was one could jailbreak their iPhone.
