May provide subtle nudge to sales
Apple has made a small but noticeable change to the iPad version of the App Store, introducing a "Genius" tab to the app's bottom menu bar. Previously, the bar contained just the regular Featured, Top 25/Charts, Categories and Updates tabs universal to iOS devices. On an iPhone or iPod touch, people must still tap the Featured tab to find the Genius option located up top.
The change likely serves a dual purpose. The first is to better use the screen space on an iPad, which is more comparable to that of a netbook than a phone or media player. The second is to boost sales by encouraging exploration of new apps. iPad titles can be expensive next to their iPhone counterparts, making it important for people to find highly-rated or simply more appropriate downloads.
