Acer launches dual-boot netbook in Taiwan

Acer is currently showing off a netbook at a computer show in Taiwan that uses both Android and Windows XP operating systems. Reports today from the event say the dual-boot device, the Aspire One AOD255, will load Android as a quick-boot system for access to things like e-mail, the web and chat programs. Acer's Configuration Manager for Android software lets users choose which OS is loaded.

The 10.1-inch netbook is powered by a 1.66GHz Atom CPU and gets 1GB of RAM. It stores data on a 160GB hard drive and has a three-cell battery, though a six-cell will be optional for $95. When the netbook launches, it will cost the equivalent of about $375 in Taiwan. Taipei Computer Applications Show attendees can buy one in person for $300. There is no indication of when the netbook would launch in global markets.
