Microsoft hints at possible Magic Trackpad competitor

MS hints at mystery flat peripheral

Microsoft's hardware group created a minor amount of intrigue today as it posted a second teaser for an unknown peripheral. The controller doesn't appear to be either a mouse or a keyboard and, from a small fragment, appears to be a possible challenger to Apple's Magic Trackpad. In one hint, however, Microsoft told users "don't be so touchy... flat is where it's at," casting doubts on the trackpad theory as well.

The company hasn't given any clues as to when the next teaser, if any, would come about. Accordingly, it's unknown when the peripheral might ship or how much it might cost. If a trackpad, it may have full cross-platform support where some Microsoft mice don't have full support without Windows. The company wouldn't have intentionally shadowed Apple as a result, as the touch peripheral shipped just a week ago.

    isn't it hilarious ...

... that with Microsoft's reputation of copying Apple so much, you have to point out that this time it wouldn't have been likely given the timeframe? hee hee

    Microsoft is so passe...

If microsoft spent more in research rather than paying customers to use their products (i.e. Bing search Cashback), maybe they won't be seen as a copycat.

Apple spends gobs of money into research and design. If any other company wants to compete, they're going to have to spend twice as much to just catch up

MS is going through a slow death.....

How can you say Msft is copying Apple here? You think they created a new product in a week? Give me a break. Although they've been lacking in innovation lately, this is surely not an example of them copying Apple.

    MS Trackpad?

That would be the thickest trackpad I've ever seen. On the other hand, maybe it's Surface Mobile ...

    Come on Luckyday

Lucky day, really...this is classic Microsoft copying. How long do you think it would take to copy a Magic Trackpad? It's essentially taking an Apple trackpad from a laptop and putting it in a new enclosure. They just announced that it will ship soon. In Microsoft time, that's still months away. It's not like it's shipping today. I think their logic is sound but that's obviously a matter of opinion.
