BlackBerry Storm2, Curve 8530 EOL as Storm3, 9300 approach

updated 08:00 am EDT, Tue July 27, 2010

Verizon to end Storm2 and Curve 8530 in August

RIM is about to phase out the BlackBerry Curve 8530 and Storm2 for their direct replacements. A leak late last evening showed that Verizon is marking both phones as "end of life" and will pull the Curve on August 1 while the Storm2 exits on August 15. The same memo obtained by BBLeaks also refers to the decision to cancel the Droid.

The replacements are listed as due in the summer or fall.

While the Storm3 isn't expected until the fall, signs have emerged that the Curve replacement is due much sooner. A leak this morning has hinted that the Curve 9300, now referred to as the Curve 3G, should reach Bell Canada on August 12. Verizon will likely have to adopt a CDMA version of the phone but, based on the CrackBerry date, may get its variant relatively quickly.

RIM hasn't confirmed either device, but the 9300 may be the second of two new phones it alluded to shipping in the summer. The other is expected to be the BlackBerry 9800.
