Downtown Philadelphia Apple store to open on Friday

Store long under construction

The first Apple Store to be located in downtown Philadelphia will finally open this Friday, July 30th, according to an announcement. The shop is located at 1607 Walnut Street, between 16th Street and 17th Street. Grand opening is set at the late hour of 5PM, particularly unusual as the store will close again just three hours later.

Regular store hours will run from 10AM to 8PM Monday through Saturday, and from 11AM to 6PM on Sunday. No workshops have been scheduled so far. The store is just in time to inaugurate Apple's new iMacs, Mac Pros and Magic Trackpads.

The outlet has been some time in coming. For a long while, Philadelphia residents have had to shop at Apple Stores surrounding the city, such as Ardmore or Cherry Hill. Although murmurs of a Walnut Street location began in January 2009, plans were not finalized until last winter, and construction only began towards the beginning of April. The building dates back the 1900s, and has required gutting the interior, removing asbestos and erecting a new facade.
