Vodafone cancels all future 360-based phones

updated 01:15 pm EDT, Mon July 26, 2010

Vodafone no longer making custom 360 phones

UK wireless provider Vodafone has stopped development on custom, Vodafone 360 handsets, and will no longer work on or release the Samsung H2 altogether. Instead, it will focus on enhancing the 360 social media platform and adding handsets that support it. Currently, Vodafone 360 services include automatic syncing of all contacts from your phone, Facebook, Windows Live Messenger, Google Talk and Twitter, as well as a music, apps and games shop, among others.

The service is available for more than 100 handsets and five platforms. The latest handset to get the services is the Sony Ericsson X10 mini pro. The first custom Vodafone 360 handset was the Samsung H1, with its successor, the H2, said to arrive sometime in 2010. It sported a 1GHz CPU, eight-megapixel camera with 720p video recording and a 3.7-inch AMOLED screen.

With this announcement, it's expected that Vodafone will begin shipping all of its supporting handsets with the 360 suite preinstalled. [via MobileIndustryReview]
