Marware, Griffin cases put to test
MacNN has posted a second set of iPad case reviews, this time concentrating on a mix of mostly folio-style offerings. The first of these is the M-Edge Executive Jacket, a folio case with a choice of real or synthetic leather. Leather loops hold an iPad in place. While generally well-rated in part because of its materials, some faults are said to include difficult access to volume and screen-lock controls, as well as limited protection.
Marware's Eco-Vue is noted to have better protection, along with easy control access. Other features include minimal bulk, a convenient typing stand and a handstrap. The iPad's own design is said to be obscured, and the durability of the case's leather is considered "questionable;" it may nevertheless be the best case in terms of pure functionality.
Griffin's entry, the Elan Sleeve, is designed only to protect an iPad when not in use. It is however said to be very durable, and built with a tab that both keeps an iPad from falling out and makes it easier to remove. The only major complaint is the sleeve opening, which leaves the top of an iPad vulnerable.
The last case, the Aligata Nippon, is a folio made with authentic cow leather. Though considered a strength thanks to the toughness it provides, the leather is also said to be a weakness, in that it carries imperfections and can also cause owners to worry about the case as much as the tablet. Pricing is argued to be reasonable, given the material used.
