Magic Bullet Colorista II adds keyer, highlight recovery

updated 11:45 am EDT, Fri July 23, 2010

Plugin supports several editing suites

Red Giant has released Magic Bullet Colorista II, an updated plugin for After Effects, Premiere Pro and Final Cut Pro. The software lets editors perform color correction on video using color wheels. New in the upgrade are several features, most importantly a new keyer, which can control individual colors or ranges. Some options include direct sampling, and softening, choking or inverting a matte.

Eight channels are now available for managing hue, saturation and luminance, and highlight recovery can be used to salvage detail in blown-out lighting. A Pop slider lets users alternately sharpen or smooth out images, the latter while retaining essential details.

Colorista II is $299 new, or $99 as an upgrade. Mac users must be running an Intel machine with at least Mac OS X 10.5.8 and 1GB of RAM. After Effects owners must have CS3 or later, whereas Mac Premiere Pro compatibility starts at CS4. For Final Cut Pro, editors must have v6 or 7.
