Company to defer $175M expense for bumper cases
Following Apple's Q3 financial disclosures, COO Tim Cook played down the impact of antenna issues surrounding the iPhone 4. The executive suggests that, despite the reception problems, "we are selling every device we can make."
During a Q&A session following the financial conference call, several analysts attempted to pry additional information regarding any negative impact the reports have had on iPhone 4 sales. Cook reiterated that his "phone is ringing off the hook" with requests for more supply.
The executive also suggested that there is no way to run an "experiment" to gauge the potential impact on sales, as the demand has continued to exceed supplies. Returns are said to still be less than that of the iPhone 3GS, as Jobs announced last Friday, and the number of returns solely related to the antenna issue is "extremely small."
The company will defer revenue of $175 million for the free bumper cases at the end of the September quarter. The impact will be recognized as expenses in December and as customers receive them.

Sorry...........
Sorry, um, if you hold the phone, which has an antenna on the bottom, by the bottom, you're going to get c*** signal. Happened on every phone i've ever used, including ones in att stores.
My old pre-iPhone phone, the moto razr, had the antenna at the bottom, if i held it by the bottom, i'd lose signal strength, but i didn't hold it that way normally, i'd usually grip it near the hinge, with my hand purposely away from the antenna.
This topic needs to die all ready, it really isn't an issue.
