Update improves stability and performance
Apple has released an update to its iBooks app for the iPad and iPhone. Version 1.1.1 adds support for audio and video content within books. The update is also said to bring performance improvements when reading PDFs.
Users can now double-tap images within books to view expanded versions for a closer look. Users can also find definitions to English words without a specified language.
iBooks 1.1.1 is now available as a free download that works with the iPad, iPhone or iPod touch.

It seems apple is preparing for books that need the extra av content ( in addition to those that want to use it to differentiate themselves from the traditional medium of print) like text books - which have heretofore been bundling ( or bungling) a cd. It also paves the way for them to eventually entice magazines that are leaning more towards the adobe lazy and bloated route.
