Bumper case orders halt at Apple Store

updated 09:25 am EDT, Mon July 19, 2010

Company prepares stock to meet promises

The official bumper cases for the iPhone 4 are now temporarily off sale at the Apple online store. All colors are listed as "currently unavailable" worldwide, including at the US, UK, French and German storefronts. The stock-out is expected, as Apple has promised to give out free cases later this week to people affected by the iPhone 4's reception issues, including not only the bumpers but a selection of third-party cases.

The reason for the latter, as explained by CEO Steve Jobs, is that the company will not be able to produce bumpers fast enough to meet demand. Apple has not however said which cases from which makers it will be willing to hand out. The bumpers could be out of stock for some time, as there are presently over 3 million iPhone 4 owners globally.

    3rd party case suggestion

I would endorse and recommend the case I bought, the SwitchEasy NUDEā„¢
    http://www.switcheasy.com/products/NUDE_iPhone4/NUDE_iPhone4.php
    I bought the clear version.
made from Lexan polycarbonate for protection and doesn't change the cosmetics of the iPhone 4. Cheaper selling price than the Apple bumper.

The NUDE will scratch your phone

I too bought the NUDE case. And sent it right back without putting it on the phone. It has no rubber contact points, which means dust and grit will get in between the case and the phone and act as sandpaper. If you use the NUDE case, your phone will get very scratched very quickly.

    If it's free gimme one....w91t

Some will try to spin this as proof that a majority of iPhone 4 users are affected by antennagate. Common sense and basic human nature would tend, however, to support the proposition that, since Apple is giving something away free, most everybody will take them up on the offer even if they don't have a problem.
