Apple's Magic Trackpad reaches FCC

updated 03:00 pm EDT, Mon July 19, 2010

Apple gets closer to Magic Trackpad with filing

Apple's Magic Trackpad gained further credibility on Monday with an FCC filing for its approval. The document shows only the label location but does show a small, squared design that uses only Bluetooth for wireless. It also carries the same A1339 model name, consistent with Apple's naming schemes, and refers to the device as a trackpad.

There aren't any additional clues from the FCC, but Apple historically chooses to end its disclosure periods only just before launch, such as with the iPhone 4. The posting could hint at the Magic Trackpad shipping as soon as tomorrow, possibly including new desktop Macs. It's not evident if the trackpad would supplement or replace the Magic Mouse. Multi-Touch?

I just registered and this is my first post. ( yeah yeah, who cares ;) ) But this could be ho hum, or it could be fantastic.

Imagine if it fully supported multi-touch? You could test iPhone apps via an emulator, you could use it more like a less-sensitive mini tablet, you could control an iPad or iPhone on a stand if they allowed it. How about as a controller for the rumored tiny apple-TV. A touch pad with multi-touch.

I hope this actually comes out. It might really shake things up from a HID standpoint.

Welcome! Now be prepared to be flamed!

But this could be ho hum, or it could be fantastic.

Or it could be something in the middle. Or it could be nothing at all.

Being that the trackpads on all Apple laptops are multi-touch already, couldn't all this be done through those?

So it would be your generic stand-alone track pad, but with multi-touch?

As to the tiny Apple-TV, wasn't that rumor tied to this device? I thought they display was the 'mini touch-screen', and what everyone went all over about.

I hope this actually comes out. It might really shake things up from a HID standpoint.

Doubt it. Every year 200 companies come out with things that's going to 'shake up' the HID stuff, and it's all more of the same. And why would Apple need to shake it up, since they want to sell people iPod Touches and use that.
