Version 7 adds new Time Machine user/group options
Group Logic has released ExtremeZ-IP 7.0, a new version of its administrative toolset for connecting Macs in a Windows environment. The software integrates fileserving and printserving, for instance by supporting Active Directory and DFS. It supports Bonjour and the Apple File Protocol, and can also maintain Spotlight searches and Time Machine backups.
In v7.0 admins can, via the new ShadowConnect feature, link Macs to Microsoft's Volume Shadow Copy service -- VSS -- for backing up data on a Windows server. Time Machine quotas can now be set on a per-group or per-user level, with more control over permissions. Also new in the upgrade is a File Name Policy Reporter, which tracks down bad filenames to ensure compatibility across a network. Miscellaneous changes include performance enhancements, Mac OS compatibility improvements and more monitoring options.
ExtremeZ-IP operates on Mac OS 9 through OS X 10.6, with some limitations, and is compatible with Windows 2003 and 2008 servers. Costs range from $400 for a three-client server and $1,500 for a 10-client server to $7,000 for unlimited clients.
