iPhone 4 flaws reach Late Show with David Letterman

updated 12:05 pm EDT, Wed July 14, 2010

Awareness of reception problems now widespread

Problems with the iPhone 4 obtained extra publicity on Tuesday night with the airing of a new Top Ten segment on CBS' Late Show with David Letterman. While purely in fun, the segment was titled "Top Ten Signs You've Purchased a Bad iPhone," and traded on the currency of media reports about possibly faulty design leading to signal drops. When holding an iPhone 4 with a particular grip, especially a left-handed one, signal can at least appear to drop from a near-perfect level to nil.

Since Consumer Reports published a study on Monday advising against buying the latest iPhone, reception issues have achieved widespread recognition in the news media, including major outlets like CNN and Fox News. Apple has not so far made any response to the CR report. Its last official word on the matter came July 2nd, when it blamed trouble on iOS inaccurately measuring signal quality, and promised a software fix within a few weeks.

    Letterman?

Letterman is a repugnant corporate schill who stopped actually being funny about fifteen years ago. As a corporate sell-out he'd be on my top ten list. I don't believe for one second that this "purely comedic" segment was unprompted. I wonder who CBS are taking their inducements from at the moment?

    Re: Letterman

Yes, that's how it works. Anyone with a negative saying about an Apple product must be done by some ulterior motive.

Yet I'm sure if he was on his show talking about how great the iPhone was, you'd be saying how it was great publicity and something money can't buy (regardless if he got paid for it in one way or the other).

BTW, he does nothing but dismiss and mock his bosses (and has done so since working at NBC, where he did it even more). He doesn't do commercials, rarely even does a promo. He doesn't show up for CBS events, let alone any other event. He certainly never does any of the 'showbiz' shows on TV like so many do ("Today, we're going to follow around Paris Hilton and see what she does in a day!").

So, it must be asked: Who the h*** is he shilling for?

    Hypersensitive, much?

It is unreal to me how anyone could take this as an assault on the iPhone or Apple.

Did any of you actually watch the video or pay attention??

The list should have been titled 'Top Ten Signs You Bought a **COUNTERFEIT** iPhone'.

Watch it again. All the jokes are indicating you got ripped off with a knock-off iPhone; not ONCE does he knock the real iPhone. Not once is there any even remote allusion to an antennae issue.

You people assuming he's attacking Apple are just flat out clueless. Clueless fanboys.

The list could have just as easily been titled 'Top Ten Reasons to Make Sure You Buy a REAL iPhone So You Will Have The Best Experience in The World Bar None and Anything Else You Buy Is No Better Than a Pop-Tart'

Get off your fanboy perch and recognize that not everything is an attack on Apple, even if it does have the word 'bad' in the title.
