T-Mobile to release second webConnect HSPA+ modem

A couple of leaked images reveal that T-Mobile will soon offer the sequel to the webConnect Rocket 3G modem. Simply called webConnect Rocket 2.0, the modem remains the only one with HSPA+ support in the provider's lineup. The new device is also compatible with Macs as well as PCs from the outset and has a built-in microSDHC memory card slot for adding up to 16GB of storage.

Also, the USB modem is slightly redesigned, with a more rounded exterior rather than the harder, sharper edges of the previous model. Pricing should remain the same, or free with a data plan, which begins at $25 per month for 200MB of data. It will likely begin showing up in stores when inventory of the current model runs out.

The HSPA+ network has support for up to 21Mbps downstream with 5.76Mbps up speeds. Real world speeds are closer to 7Mbps down and over 2.5Mbps up. [via TMoNews]
