Camera+ performs well for developer
iPhone developer tap tap tap has allegedly fetched $253,000 in revenue from a single app sold for one month in the App Store. The app, Camera+, provides photography tools such as scene modes, cropping, digital zoom, and a Lightbox. Users can also apply a variety of effects, add borders, or share content with social networking sites.
Although the developer promoted the app with a prize package of high-end camera gear valued at $10,000, the sales were driven without any formal advertising. The title also showed strong performance in international markets, where sales were sustained despite a fall-off in US distribution numbers after the first two weeks.
The success of Camera+ is also somewhat unique considering its categorization as a productivity app. The app store top-sellers lists are dominated by games and entertainment titles in the US.
"If you’re an iPhone developer, this may be a big red flag if you’re creating productivity apps, utilities, and other non-game apps and you’re looking to develop the next big hit," co-founder John Casasanta wrote in a blog post. "But, as we’ve proven, it’s still possible to cut through and get a non-game up the ranks." [via Business Insider]

Hmm..
Not exactly true, since the app was advertised unofficially on This Week in Tech, a podcast that has well over 200,000 listeners. And when one listener shows it off to another person, you get a domino effect.
That's a LOT of effective advertising right there.
