Support also coming to Outlook
Apple appears to be moving to the open CalDAV standard for calendar content in the new MobileMe beta. Users can now add MobileMe as a new account type in iCal, however the interface presents an error with a CalDAV reference.
The error can be resolved by logging into MobileMe and requesting an invite to the beta program. Participating in the beta will eliminate the error message and allow the MobileMe account to be added using the CalDAV standard.
Apple's FAQ for the MobileMe beta points out that Calendar data must be upgraded to the new service because of the CalDAV standard. "CalDAV is an industry-standard calendar protocol tht works with the latest Apple devices and supports sharing," the support page reads.
The FAQ also suggests that the beta will soon be supported with Microsoft Outlook, via the MobileMe control panel for Windows. Users should be able to take advantage of the CalDAV support in Outlook after the beta is ready for a final release. [via The Cat Convention]
