Lenovo Skylight to go dual-core, Toshiba tablets enroute

Lenovo and Toshiba getting faster CPUs

Lenovo's smartbook has been pushed back again while Toshiba is now turning its attention to tablets, rumors asserted today. The former's already delayed Skylight is now believed to be delayed again, to the end of the year, but will get a major performance upgrade in the process. It had originally been scheduled to get a single-core 1GHz Snapdragon processor but should now leap to a dual-core 1.5GHz version in return for the delay.

Toshiba in the meantime is believed by DigiTimes to be shifting its attention to tablets and will have two by the end of the year. Contrary to its mixed platform expectations, though, both would use ARM processors and thus couldn't use Windows 7. Company statements suggest at least one of these will be Android-based, but the other if different isn't known. One option is Windows Embedded Compact 7, the same mobile-oriented UI that drives the Eee Pad EP101TC.

Toshiba has already embraced Android and ARM with its upcoming smartbook, the Dynabook AC100, which should ship to Japan in late August before reaching other countries.
