iFixit posts self-repair manual for iPhone 4

updated 10:35 am EDT, Mon June 28, 2010

Front glass now a difficult fix

Shortly after posting a teardown analysis, iFixit says it has released a self-repair manual for the iPhone 4. The web document includes 10 different sections, covering topics like the battery, the dock connector and the front- and rear-facing cameras. Images illustrate various aspects of gaining access to each part.

Changes in the phone's design may now make repairing the front panel expensive, iFixit warns. The front glass has been merged with the LCD and the digitizer, making it impossible to replace at the moment without breaking the LCD. The back glass is said to be comparatively easy to replace. iFixit also cautions that it does not yet have iPhone 4 parts on sale, as it has yet to fully test them with the final release models.
