Counter-Strike: Source for Mac hits Steam

updated 04:45 pm EDT, Wed June 23, 2010

Wraps in enhancements from Windows update

Following up on an earlier claim, Valve has released the first Mac version of Counter-Strike: Source through Steam. Players take sides with a team of terrorists or counter-terrorists as the former try to plant a bomb and ensure it isn't defused. Until today, the popular multiplayer game has only been available for Windows users.

The Mac edition also incorporates fresh updates from the Windows side, which include achievements and lifetime player statistics, as well as a domination/revenge system. A cinematic death camera has been added, and graphics improvements include support for multi-core rendering. For two days the game is selling for $6.80, as opposed to a regular price of $19.99; if a person already owns the Windows game, the Mac version is free.
