iPhone 4 starts arriving early, won't activate yet

iPhone 4 pre-orders arrive 2 days early

Apple today surprised iPhone 4 buyers with word from some buyers that they're already receiving their phones. A day earlier than promised, some have either received their deliveries from FedEx or have received notice that theirs are on FedEx trucks for delivery. The early adopters note, however, that their phones won't activate until tomorrow, likely as AT&T hadn't anticipated some orders arriving before Wednesday.

The early shipping hasn't been explained by either partner, but the arrivals are likely timed to soften the load on AT&T's activation servers and on FedEx. Apple marked 600,000 pre-orders just on its first day, an all-time record for the company, and may be keen to avoid launch problems.

    Not true about activation...

I believe the activation issues are isolated, as there are several people in the MacRumors forum who have successfully activated their iPhone 4.
