Moto Droid 2 gets hands-on pre-review

Moto Droid very similar in look to original

The sequel to the Motorola Droid smartphone, the Droid 2, has been given a hands-on impression from AndroidandMe. Styling of the two handsets is largely the same, with only minor detail differences. The two share their dimensions, weight and battery.

The report says the visual changes are limited to a redesigned keyboard and a different upper bezel that is silver and slopes down near the bottom of the phone. The keyboard has larger keys thanks to the elimination of the directional pad, as previously reported. The keys are raised for better feedback when typing. Droid 2 is dark blue and has silver metal highlights, which differs from the original's black and gold scheme.

As previously revealed, the Droid 2 will be powered by a faster 1GHz processor. It will likely ship with Android 2.1, but 2.2 remains a possibility. The phone should be officially introduced this Wednesday, with a release likely to occur on July 19.

XD. C''mon Electronista, do you know what today is? No one gives a half a hoot about a Droid, today is the release of iOS and the 24th is the release of the iPhone 4. I'd seriously be amazed if they managed to sell a single Droid 2 to any sane human being.
