Galaxy S Pro gets unofficial early hands-on

The upcoming Samsung Galaxy S Pro smartphone has received preliminary, unofficial specs from a reliable tipster, courtesy of AndroidCentral. The phone is still said to be in the testing phase, however, so some of the below specs may still change. The QWERTY slider is said to be about a half-inch shorter but thicker than the Sprint Evo 4G.

Other subjective impressions of the tipster include a click-into-place keyboard, soft plastic keys that are raised and firm, and a plastic body.
On the hardware side, there is a 1GHz Samsung/Intrinsity ARM Cortex-A8 chip. The Super AMOLED screen creates blacks that "almost look wet" with an 800x480 resolution. Screen size is estimated to be smaller than the 4.3-inch Evo 4G but bigger than the 3.7-inch Nexus One.

There is also said to be 512MB of RAM and 8.2GB of flash, but what will be set aside for storage remains unknown. Wi-Fi, a five-megapixel camera with 720p recording and a front-facing VGA camera are also confirmed. A second SIM card slot hints at dual-phone or world phone capability. As expected, EVDO Rev. A and WiMAX radios are built-in.

On the software side, the test phone had Android 2.1 with the first update overlaid with TouchWiz 3.0 custom touches. The tipster was impressed by a widget that scrolls contacts, likely tied into social networks. H.264 and DiVX video playback was found to work flawlessly, and Sprint TV worked well over either 4G, 3G or Wi-Fi connections.

Despite the early look, a launch date or pricing for the phone remains unknown.
