Source claims full phone function, Android 2.2

An anonymous tipster has provided more details about the Samsung Galaxy Tab. According to the source, who claimed to Engadget to have examined the device, the P1000 model number is correct and is the four-button device seen in a recent video. It's approximately the same thickness as an iPhone.

It uses a standard SIM slot and has full phone functionality with either the tablet's speakerphone or by Bluetooth headset. In addition to Bluetooth, it has GPS, Wi-Fi and 3G data connections, and can tether over USB or Wi-Fi. The source added that the Galaxy Tab appeared to run a stock version of Android 2.2 rather than Samsung's customized version.

The source said the Galaxy Tab has a 3.2 megapixel camera and a front-facing camera for video calling.

The Galaxy Tab has been rumored to be powered by a 1.2GHz ARM Cortex-A8. Others have hinted at a seven-inch Super AMOLED touchscreen, internal storage of 16GB with up to 32GB microSDHC expansion, and a 4,000mAh battery. The Galaxy Tab is expected to ship with an e-book reader app with magazine content.

The company has stated that the Galaxy Tab will ship this summer, and possibly by August.
