Telus cuts iPhone prices in advance of iPhone 4

updated 01:10 pm EDT, Wed June 16, 2010

Follows US strategy

Canadian carrier Telus has cut some of its contract prices for the iPhone ahead of launching the iPhone 4. A brand new 32GB 3GS can now be had for $149, while a refurbished version of the same unit costs $99. Similarly, a new 16GB 3GS is $99, and a refurbished model is $49. An iPhone 3G can be had for free alongside a subscription.

All of the above prices do, however, involve a three-year contract, in contrast to many other countries, where people have the option of two-year or even 18-month agreements for an iPhone. A contract-free 32GB 3GS is priced at $799 with Telus, while 16GB lowers the cost to $699. The carrier should be one of several selling the Canadian iPhone 4 when it launches in July; none of them have announced prices.

    contract free?

not really. You pay full price for the phone and then you have two choices: 1) pay Telus's monthly smartphone charge [must include both voice + phone] or 2) put it in a drawer and forget about it. They currently are all carrier-locked [yes, the ones you paid full price for].

I'm actually shocked that Apple is selling unlocked iPhones directly....
