Samsung intros Wave 2, Wave 2 Pro phones with Bada

updated 11:35 am EDT, Tue June 15, 2010

Samsung adds two lower cost Bada phones

Samsung took advantage of the CommunicAsia event today to add two new phones using its in-house Bada OS. The Wave 2 and Wave 2 Pro (S5250 and S5330) are lower-cost alternatives to the Wave flagship that use smaller 3.2-inch LCDs instead of a 4-inch Super AMOLED, three-megapixel cameras, and drop 3G. They still have 802.11n Wi-Fi for faster wireless and carry GPS, Bluetooth and microSDHC slots; the Pro adds a sliding QWERTY keyboard.

Bada is still the same and hinges on the Social Hub, an area that pools e-mail, messages and status updates from all contacts in a single area.

Both the Wave 2 variants are due to ship in August and will target Russia as well as Southeast Asia. Other countries aren't mentioned in the plans, but the phones support quad-band GSM and EDGE and can work in most countries when unlocked.
