All AT&T iPhone 4 pre-orders to be black?

updated 05:25 pm EDT, Mon June 14, 2010

Detail comes in leaked memo

AT&T will only be offering black iPhone 4s at launch, and when it begins taking pre-orders tomorrow, a leaked memo suggests. The document mentions just two iPhone 4 SKUs for the above timeframes, differentiated by 16 or 32GB of storage. The $99 iPhone 3GS option -- scaled down to 8GB -- is mentioned as being permanently restricted to black.

White iPhone 4s are currently only listed as being available "later this summer," meaning that they could be shipped as far away as August or September. Why AT&T would restrict color options initially is unknown, though supply shortages with the white models are a possible explanation. There is no word on whether other iPhone vendors, including Apple itself, might have limited quantities of white.

    new "upgrader question"

I paid outright for my 3GS last time, so I just ordered from Apple direct. So the question is, to get the upgrade price (I'm eligible), do I have to order from AT&T? I'm starting to think their servers aren't up to the challenge.

Agree, dealing with Apple is way more pleasant!

What upsets me are ATT's lame and expensive data plans... my eighty-five year old mother uses more data on her 3GS iPhone than this lousy and costly new 2 gig data plan limit.

ATT's mis-information here: "98% of AT&T smartphone customers use less than 2 GB in a month on average" does not take into account current unlimited data use of ATT's iPhone users represents 58% of the mobile browser usage...

By buying/upgrading to iPhone 4 I will loose the last year of my unlimited data on my current iPhone 3GS and be stuck with costly new charges on my bill when I go over the 2 Gig limit...

As much as I would like to upgrade three iPhones today... I would rather not loose the "All you can eat" data plans I have had since the first iPhone.

And I am still stuck with ATT legendary poor wireless performance...

I have been an ATT customer for fourteen years - Please Apple ope up to additional carrier competition.
